The Secretary of State for Telecommunications, Mário Oliveira, reiterated yesterday, in the country's capital, the Executive's support for private projects to expand the Internet throughout the national territory, within the framework of the program to promote employability and reconversion of the country. informal economy.

Mário Oliveira made these statements to journalists in the margin of the presentation of the project “Accelerates Net", an initiative of the company Angola Cables, in partnership with the Angolan Telecommunications Institute (INACOM), companies in the sector and banking institutions, whose goal is to create technical conditions for small Internet service providers (ISP's) to operate in the market with a probability of success.

The Secretary of State stated that the “Acelera Net” project is to reduce, to a great extent, the constraints of citizens residing, especially in less favored locations, where commercial activity has been conditioned by the scarcity or absence of the entire telecommunications ecosystem. . Still touching on the subject of digital literacy, he also mentioned that it is one of the objectives of the Executive to support projects of a technological nature in the business sector and in Education, which aims to increase the penetration rate of digital technologies in commercial and industrial activity and the development of the digital economy.

When asked about the modalities of support for entrepreneurs, the Secretary of State considered that the needs of operators differ, but pointed out cross-cutting issues such as electricity, bank credit and technical training.

Mário Oliveira envisages a reduction in market prices as a result of economic growth and increase in infrastructure, despite studies carried out by the regulatory body showing that television prices in Angola are among the most affordable in the region.

Angola Cables' “Acelera Net” program comes to help in the insertion of new Internet service providers in the country, making it more dynamic due to the partnership with several companies in the sector, such as the banking sector and the Ministry of Telecommunications, Technologies and Information and Social Communication and banking.

It should also be noted that this program aims to raise the country's Internet penetration rate from 3,0 percent to around 10 percent over the next four years (until 2025) and make Angola an important platform on the African continent, where digital technologies represent about 2,5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.

The project will consist of specialized training, capacity building in business management, provision of special financing and reduction of the cost of the Internet in any location where the investment is located.

According to the director general of Angola Cables, Ângelo Gama, the project aims to “grow the digital economy in Angola, create conditions for the sustainability of the business for the digital entrepreneur, with high standards of services provided to customers and viable production costs” .

The launching ceremony was attended by representatives of institutions and private entities linked to the Telecommunications sector, who addressed topics such as “the context of the Digital Economy in Angola”, as well as “The Regulatory Panorama for ISPs and Activity Financing”.
