Optical fiber connection between Angola, DRC and Zambia will contribute to the economic development of SADC

The land connection by optical fiber between Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia it will make a major contribution to the economic development of the three countries and the well-being of the people, according to the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira.

Speaking at the ceremony that marked the inauguration of the entry into operation of the fiber optic cable in the presence of the Presidents of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, and of the DRC, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, the minister stressed that the connection will allow a significant improvement in the communication system between the three countries.

"With this connection, we are making a major contribution to regional integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African continent in general.”, said Mário Oliveira, where a video call was made in the act, with the counterparts from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

The leader also informed that, as of last Tuesday (04), Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo are in a position to drain telecommunications traffic via submarine cables that dock in Luanda (Angola) and, through them , connect with the rest of the world.

"This connection will certainly reinforce communications in the region.”, he said, reiterating that with this connection, the economies of the three countries will be able to take significant steps towards growth, which will contribute to the well-being of their peoples.

Mário Oliveira concluded with the commitment and dedication of the technical managers of the companies who, according to the government official, spared no effort to carry out the project. He mentioned that the Angola Telecom and Unitel, on the part of Angola, Liquid from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as well as the company from Zambia, which according to the official, together contributed to make this important means of communication, which represents the future and development of countries, a reality.
