Only 29% of the Angolan population have home internet access, according to the national director of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Matias Borges.

Speaking at the 6th Telecom Forum, organized by the newspaper “Expansão”, the director informed that the data covers until December 2022 and that only 25 percent have the benefits of pay TV.

The national director declared that the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) intends to work with these indicators to achieve good results in terms of fifth generation (5G) service by 2027.

Based on this data, the challenges facing the country lie in establishing ways to bring telecommunications services to populations in the most remote locations, as well as modernizing the electrical system in many sites, pointed out Matias Borges.

Another challenge is the construction of an earth observation satellite to aid agriculture and monitor oil spills at sea, in addition to the migration from analogue television to digital, a process that is being worked on with Japan, with with a view to contracting financing.

BUT: Angola has more than 24 million mobile phone subscribers

The director considered it important to build two data centers to interconnect all ministerial departments, ensuring that Government data is better treated if they are all grouped together.

"The sector's strategic vision is focused on major challenges, where the main challenge is to cover 1.246.700 square kilometers of the national territory”, He stressed.

The event was attended by several experts, with emphasis on the round table with the theme “The Challenges of Infrastructures, Financing and New Digital Concepts” Miguel Geraldes (CEO UNITEL), Gonçalo Farias (Administrator of Africell), Marcus Valdez (Director -general of DStv Angola), Carlos Pinho (Managing Partner of QUALITY), Paulo Alves (Executive Administrator of BFA) and Lutuima Vaz da Conceição (general director of New cognito (Mitrelli Group). João Armando, Director of the newspaper Expansão will moderate the debate.
