Mozambique aims to create cybersecurity academy

Mozambique will be able to count on the establishment of a legal and governance framework in the near future that involves the creation of an organization that allows the reduction of cybercrimes, according to the Director of Cybersecurity and Data Protection at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC ), Eugênio Jeremias.

Speaking at the latest edition of the Internet Governance Forum in Mozambique (FGIMz2022), the director said that the Executive intends to create a cyber security academy taking into account that cyber crimes constitute a major challenge and to this end, Mozambique, Rwanda and Angola exchanged experiences with a view to combating them.

According to Eugênio Jeremias, in addition to an organization that aims to combat and reduce computer crimes, Mozambique intends to create a cyber security academy.

"We have in mind the creation of the cybersecurity academy. We have a series of trainings planned for next year, we have already held three trainings this year. While the academy is not available, we are offering online courses in coordination with another international partnership, which is the Portuguese cybersecurity department. These courses helped a lot with the issue of cybersecurity. The creation of the National Security Council is also planned, which will coordinate the actions established in the National Cyber ​​Security Police. We also have the Personal Data Protection Law, which will be an important instrument“, said Eugénio Jeremias.

The director of Cybersecurity and Data Protection at INTIC also states that citizens can play an important role in the country's cybersecurity, which is why the Government held a series of workshops to raise awareness about cybersecurity, as many Children have suffered violence through digital platforms.

In his intervention on the panel that discussed issues of Domain Name Security (DNS), Cyber ​​Security, Amos Kamugambire, representative of Rwanda's cybersecurity directorate, spoke about the achievements of the country presided over by Paul Kagame in combating cyber crimes.

Kamugambire pointed out that Rwanda has achieved encouraging results in the fight against cybercrime by involving the private sector, having also carried out an awareness campaign for those involved in this security to adhere to professional secrecy when it comes to data that could compromise the country's sovereignty.

Amos Kamugambire stated, on the other hand, that Rwanda has several platforms to repel possible cyber attacks, but acknowledged that it still has a long way to improve the issue of dry data analysis with a view to further improving cybersecurity.

In turn, André Pedro, representing the institution that deals with combating cybercrime in Angola, said that the focus in combating cybercrime must be on men, since employees serve as the entry point for cyberattacks.

The Internet Governance Forum in Mozambique 2022 (FGIMz2022) is an annual inclusive debate platform in the area of ​​internet governance, where it aims to promote public consultation on the guidelines for internet management and development in Mozambique, establishing consensus on matters of digital governance policies and strategies and internet governance in particular, based on democratic and universal principles, which took place in a hybrid format and included the participation of Angola, Portugal and Rwanda.
