[Mozambique] AT restructures taxpayer registration portal

A Mozambique Tax Authority (AT) is investing in the restructuring of the register and the taxpayer portal with a view to making compliance with tax obligations quicker and with better quality.

The information was provided by the general director of taxes, Lurdes Ranze, during a seminar to publicize and listen to the restructuring project for this area, with which the tax administration intends to get closer and closer to taxpayers.

According to the director, who was speaking on behalf of the President of the AT, the institution is currently undergoing a modernization process as a way of simplifying and facilitating compliance with tax obligations and expanding the tax base. It also aims to allow for greater revenue collection.

“AT bets on the use of information and communication technologies both for tax collection as well as for the management of taxpayers in order to respond to the challenges inherent in the current reality”, he informed.

The director also explained that the restructuring project will allow AT to improve the quality of the taxpayers' database, simplify processes, procedures and implement a new model for managing the register.

“The project to restructure the taxpayers' register and the taxpayer's portal that we are announcing today are services that will bring added value to economic agents and stakeholders”, he stressed.

The source understands that this mechanism will provide greater convenience to taxpayers in obtaining better conditions for the fulfillment of their tax obligations.

Lurdes Banze also added that the digital platform is part of the efforts that the Government has been developing in the scope of the modernization and integration of systems (interoperability) aiming at the quality of information in order to maximize the collection of revenue for the financing of public expenses. That is why –he explained- AT appealed to the private sector and society in general to adhere to the new services in the area of ​​technology and modernization resulting from these services.

Several project priorities were defined, such as decentralizing the activities of the Central Registration Unit, cleaning the database, qualifying information on the different categories of taxpayers, improving the functionality of printing letters of the Unique Tax Identification Number (NUIT) and consultation of the cadastral situation, among other aspects.

The event was attended by representatives of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), commercial banks, the Mozambican Bar Association (OAM) and the Mozambican Accountants and Auditors (OCAM), among others.
