The telecommunications regulatory agencies of Cape Verde and Brazil signed a memorandum of understanding for technical and institutional cooperation, announced the Cape Verdean Multisectoral Regulatory Agency for the Economy (ARME).

In a note released by Anatel, the Brazilian regulatory agency added that this memorandum of understanding — which follows another, from 2009, signed at the time with the former National Communications Agency of Cape Verde — involves “topics that still have regulatory relevance for Cape Verde, such as universal access, economic regulation, 'roaming', reduction of the digital divide, spectrum, among others".

“However, topics with greater regulatory relevance were added, such as development and significant connectivity, regulatory impact analysis, in addition to topics suggested by the technical areas of the agency, such as fraud in the provision of telecommunications services, control mechanisms for enabling terminals stolen, stolen or lost furniture, spatial sustainability and the fight against piracy”, explained Anatel.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by the presidents of the two institutions, Leonilde dos Santos (ARME) and Carlos Manuel Baigorri (Anatel).
