The Privatization Program (PROPRIV) intends to accelerate the disposal processes adjacent to privatization through an initial public offering, this year, with emphasis on UNITEL.

The information was provided, on Tuesday, by the Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos, during the 5th meeting of the PROPRIV Interministerial Commission, under the coordination of the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.

It should be noted that UNITEL is among the 73 assets and companies to be privatized in 2024, according to the secretary of state for the economy.

From what was revealed at a press conference, the new PROPRIV calendar for the period 2023 – 2029 includes 73 assets and companies, of which 21 are national reference companies, with emphasis on telecommunications companies, TV CABO and Unitel.

Regarding UNITEL, the State Assets and Participation Management Institute (IGAPE) announced, at the end of 2022, the beginning of the reprivatization process of the UNITEL in a competitive market, with several working group meetings already held.

BUT: There was no sharing of infrastructure between Africell and UNITEL

IGAPE clarifies that Unitel, SA is the largest mobile telecommunications company in Angola, which is of exceptional public interest for the state, given the sector's strategic position, aggregated technical knowledge, modern technological profile and its reference in national employability.

"For these facts, it should be noted that all measures are being taken to safeguard the proper functioning of the aforementioned asset and guarantee the continuity and safeguard of the common good.”, assures IGAPE.
