Nigerian startups win first edition of Africa Tech Awards

The multinationals Finance Corporation (IFC) and Viva Technology chose two Nigerian startups, namely Primed E-health and Koolboks, as the winners of the first edition of the Africa Tech Awards.

According to the organizers, the two winning startups were chosen from 45 finalist startups, drive innovations on the African continent, in an edition that brought together a group of more than 300 entries led by startups from Nigeria, as well as Egypt, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa South and Morocco.

About the winners, the Prime E-health is a startup that uses technology to provide health solutions, has emerged among the top 15 health technology in Africa, while Koolboks is a startup that offers eco-friendly solar cooling products and was nominated in the Climate Tech category.

O Africa Tech Awards is a pan-African initiative, which aims to recognize and support emerging startups that are driving innovation and development impact across the continent in three key sectors: ClimateTech, FinTech e Health tech.

Makhtar Diop, director of the IFC, says that the number and quality of applications received is proof of the continent's vibrant technological landscape, where it proves that it is resilient even in the face of the many challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"These awards will help to scale innovations in key sectors such as climate technology, health and financial services, which are key to supporting the continent's sustainable and inclusive growth.,” Diop said.

On the other hand, Viva Technology's co-presidents, Maurice Lévy and Pierre Louette, as well as director Julie Ranty, said that Africa is a fertile ground for talent and new ideas and are pleased to see so many innovative entrepreneurs participating in the first edition of the AfricaTech Awards.
