A Unitel will provide internet connection to telecommunications operators in neighboring countries, namely Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia, through the submarine cable 2Africa.

The information was revealed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Angolan company, Aguinaldo Jaime, speaking at the ceremony that marked the landing of the cable on the edge of Cacuaco beach, by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, estimating that with this further investment, and as it has been happening over the course of 22 years of presence in the Angolan market, Unitel assumes itself as a partner of the Angolan Executive, focused on the development of the economy and in particular the telecommunications sector.

For the manager, “2África” is further proof that they are a company that looks to the future, with the desire to continue to connect Angolans with each other and with the world, being, through its services, a facilitator of the digital economy.

"We would also like to highlight here that with the 2África project in Angola, UNITEL, within the scope of its corporate responsibility, will build, for the population of this seafront in the municipality of Cacuaco, a auction for the reception, treatment and sale of fish", said.

BUT: Submarine cable 2África will only come into operation in 2024

According to the manager of the telephone and telecommunications operator, the Lota will have a direct impact on the income of fishermen and vendors, in addition to bringing considerable benefits in terms of the environment and health for the community.

The company will contract a supplier to treat the waste produced at the auction (fish waste and not only), with a commitment to educate and raise awareness among the population about the collection and treatment of waste, generating a direct impact on the environment and on change behavior of the community, aiming at the significant improvement of issues related to hygiene and health.

"We will also carry out actions in one of the municipality's primary schools, in order to impact children and young people, with our corporate responsibility programs, such as “Clube da Criança”, “Stop Malaria” and Special Programs. We will provide training in Programming and Robotics; we will carry out painting at the school with repellent paint, distribution of mosquito nets, awareness talks on malaria as well as talks on safe internet, among others”, he detailed.
