Cape Verde and Microsoft sign agreement for technological support

Cape Verde and global IT giant Microsoft will sign a memorandum of understanding for technological development and support in the areas of “education, digital governance and entrepreneurship“, announced the Cape Verdean Government.

The signing will take place during the visit to the United States of America by the Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. The visit has been running since the 15th and will continue until September 23rd, the day on which the Government leader will speak at the annual UN meeting.

The signature with the Microsoft, on a date to be announced, is part of a parallel calendar of events. The brand will be represented by Kate Behncken, vice president of Microsoft Philanthropies, and Justin Spelhaug, vice president and global responsible for technologies with social impact at Microsoft Philanthropies.

The company's philanthropic arm was announced in 2015 with the aim of “contribute in new ways to a social ecosystem that brings the benefits of technology to those who need it most and also to drive inclusive growth in the global economy".

The Cape Verdean Government's commitment to the country's digital development drives part of the delegation's agenda in New York.

The team includes the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Pedro Lopes, who will be one of the speakers at a conference, on Wednesday, on advances in the 2030 Agenda (to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals based on the United Nations) with policies digital inclusion and defense of rights. "Cape Verde shares the ambitious goal of becoming a Digital Nation. We are rapidly accelerating our efforts toward this vision“, said the head of Government, at the opening of a summit on digital technologies, at the beginning of the month, in Estonia.
