Ericsson has launched the Connected Vehicle Marketplace, a solution to reduce the complexities of building digital services ecosystems for connected vehicles. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), partners and drivers will now be able to drive the development of innovation and connectivity in the automotive industry.

Scania becomes the first customer to use the new solution. Scania One is an open customer platform that provides fleet owners, drivers and fleet owners with access to services that will help increase efficiency and productivity, while helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Based on the success of the Ericsson Connected Vehicle Cloud, the Connected Vehicle Marketplace is a secure and controlled environment for OEMs to bring new digital services into the hands of their drivers. The solution is the first of its kind and will allow OEMs to fully control the inclusion of third-party digital services in an integrated and efficient way, all integrated into a digital marketplace.

Börje Ekholm, Ericsson's CEO, announced the new Connected Vehicle Market during a meeting with Ericsson's journalists and analysts at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona.

Below is a summary of what Ericsson is displaying on MWC 2017:

Through the connected vehicles, Scania knows the flow of fleet owners' customer operations, from large construction sites to public transport and long-distance transport. With Scania One, digital tools are put into the hands of fleet owners and drivers to ensure that the gains in these flows are realized.

"Ericsson is in a position to deliver virtually any content, service or application to any device or use case, whether at home, in the car or on a mobile device," said Roger Lanctot, associate director, Global Automotive Practice, Strategy Analytics.

The number of connected vehicles is growing rapidly - both for commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Scania announced that there are now 250.000 connected vehicles, which is equivalent to more than two-thirds of all vehicles it has sold in the past five years. In addition, Strategy Analytics predicts 382 million vehicles connected in 2025.

Ericsson's Connected Vehicle market allows manufacturers to create a connected ecosystem for key partners, as well as for developers who want to create new innovative services for the automotive industry.

This is one of the highlights in this issue of MWC 2017, IoT (Internet of Things). A topic that Ericsson has shown that it is dominating.

Don't be alarmed when your car sends an email to the nearest fuel pump to ask if it has a specific type of oil, all without driver intervention…
