Facebook announces its new office in Lagos, Nigeria

O Facebook announced that it will open an office in Lagos, Nigeria - its second office on the African continent. In order to support the entire sub-Saharan African region, the office is expected to become operational in 2021.

The Facebook office will host several teams that serve the continent of the entire business, including Sales, Partnerships, Politics, Communications and Engineers. “Our new office in Nigeria represents an important milestone that further reinforces our ongoing commitment to the region“Commented Kojo Boakye, Facebook's Public Policy Director for Africa.

Ime Archibong, head of Facebook's new product experimentation, said: "The opening of our new office in Lagos, presents new and exciting opportunities in digital innovations to be developed from the continent and taken to the rest of the world.

“Across Africa, we are seeing immense talent in the technological ecosystem, and I am proud that with the next opening of our new office, we will be building products for the future of Africa, and the rest of the world, with Africans in charge. We look forward to contributing even more to the technological ecosystem ”.

Since the opening of its first office in 2015, Facebook has made a series of investments across the continent, with the aim of supporting and growing the technological ecosystem, expanding and providing reliable connectivity infrastructures and helping companies to grow locally, regionally and globally. This includes the recent rollout of its grant program in Nigeria and South Africa, with the aim of supporting more than 900 companies, providing a combination of cash and ad credits to help small businesses as they rebuild themselves from COVID.
