Google opened an Artificial Intelligence research lab in Accra, Ghana, the first of its kind in Africa. The new laboratory will use artificial intelligence to develop health, education, and agricultural solutions to help diagnose certain types of disease in plantations.
O center will also focus on improving the capacity of the Google translator to capture African languages more accurately. While hosting engineers and researchers to work on projects dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI). Google says it will partner with local universities and institutions, as well as with policy makers to develop AI in Africa.
The company shared a guaranteed message that: “AI has great potential to positively impact the world, and even more so if the world is well represented in the development of new AI technologies. So it makes sense for us that the world is well represented in the development of AI ”. They also stressed that "They are excited to combine their AI research and machine learning interests and their experience in Africa to push the boundaries of AI, solving challenges in areas such as health, agriculture and education," said the company.
Google first announced plans to open IA research in Accra on 2018. Google AI Accra is part of its structured efforts to explore and integrate more diverse experiences and learning beyond the current innovation centers.
