The big disadvantage of Microsoft's smartphones is the huge lack of popular applications for Windows Phone. Although they have a very stable and very intuitive operating system, most users feel distressed by the number of reduced applications compared to what they might have on a system running iOS or Android.

O Project Astoria, is a major project developed by Microsoft to make it easier for developers to convert Android apps to Windows. The program was going well, suddenly the Project Astoria forums were closed, and Microsoft removed the latest Android mobile preview subsystem for Windows 10. So there is a high probability that the project itself will be permanently closed.

The explanation given by Windows Central, was that Project Astoria was just an emulator for Android, and for this reason the downloaded applications worked poorly and below normal standards. The same cannot be said of “Project Islandwood", A project developed in partnership with Apple, which allows compiled apps from scratch to iOS to operate within normal parameters, and which can benefit from Windows Phone features.

Another explanation is that many developers working on Android applications also release an iOS version, so Microsoft is very likely to have decided that it is better to recompile directly from iOS than to emulate Android applications.

That sounds like a wise decision. What do you think? Leave your opinion in the comments.
