Angola will be the first Portuguese-speaking country to launch this service

Movicel and Facebook this morning presented the Internet.org application, a Facebook-led initiative that brings technology leaders together with local communities and non-profit initiatives to help people who do not yet have access to the Internet, to discover the value of connectivity.

Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Senegal, Malawi, Colombia, Guatemala, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines and Bolivia, Angola becomes the first Portuguese-speaking country to launch this service through an initiative of the Movicel in partnership with Facebook, Unicef ​​and Portals Platina Line and Sapo Angola, among others.

"Connectivity means access to information and is an engine of opportunity. Despite this, two-thirds of the world's population does not have access. In this launch were present, José Henriques - General Director of Movicel; Markku Makelainen, Director of Operations and Global Partnerships, Facebook; Dr. Amelia Russo de Sá, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Angola; Sarchel Necesio - CEO of the Platina Line portal and Fineza Capelo, Sapo.ao's Communication and Partnerships Coordinator, who explained to those present their involvement in the project.

The Internet.org application provides free access to a set of useful content such as health information, news, surveys, employment, weather forecasts, messages and Facebook.

With free access to the services available at Internet.org we have removed the barrier of access cost by democratizing internet access for everyone. In addition to allowing more people to access the internet free of charge and to create a natural behavior of using data through free access, Movicel aims to increase the number of data clients of the company, as well as position as a data services leader in Angola, with strong Internet partnerships.

Free Basic Services

The Internet.org application offers free basic services in markets where Internet access may be less economical. It allows people to browse selected health, employment and local information sites at no cost to mobile data. The application is available in countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia, and will continue to be launched in more countries around the world. The services offered free of charge by Internet.org in Angola will be:

In the case of Happiness Revenue, conceived by the Ministry of Family and Promotion of Women of Angola (MINFAMU) in partnership with Unicef, it will be locally expanded by Internet.org, making it available for free to a larger number of people. It will also be the first publication with images to be launched worldwide by the platform and, therefore, a reason of pride for all Angolans. It is a publication that gives 50 very simple suggestions to support families in the protection and development of children from birth to the 5 years of age. They are 50 boards distributed by 12 family skills, including Pregnancy and Pre-natal Consultations; Birth and Care of the Newborn; Birth Registration; Breastfeeding; Immunization; Oral Serum and Prevention and Treatment of Diarrhea; Home Water Treatment; Handwashing; Defecation in a Safe Place; Malaria and Use of Mosquito Nets; Early Childhood Education and Forms of Positive Education

Social responsibility

In order to reach all Angolans and to have more access to this free service and to make full use of the content provided by Internet.org, Movicel has prepared a few informative pieces that will be on TPA, starting in July and which give various relevant information to Angolans. They explain how services are configured, how they connect to Internet.org; how to create a Facebook account, how to find friends, how to publish a post, an image, a link or a video, such as talking in the chat, and how they can access varied news, sports, weather or health information.
