More than four thousand and 587 cases of fraud using debit cards were registered in the year 2022, according to the latest data from the Empresa Interbancária de Serviços (EMIS).

According to a Nelson Prata, President of the Angolan Association for the Defense of the Consumer of Banking Services and Products (ACONSBANC), informed that his institution registers on average one to two cases of fraud per day, where to minimize the phenomenon, it has published alerts with precise instructions so that consumers and customers do not "be fooled".

The President also said that the EMIS and the National Bank of Angola (BNA), as network management entities and licensers of the Angolan financial system, are aware of the phenomenon and have been working to mitigate fraud.

"Unfortunately, those who engage in this practice of fraud also study and we are not always able to anticipate them.”, said Nelson Prata.

It is to avoid this misfortune, several specialists and operators of the Angolan technological sector are of the opinion that digital literacy is key to avoid scams, something that has increased a lot in the country in recent times, as well as to reinforce security and the number of users. .

According to Eduardo Pinto, Director of Operations and Technologies at Unitel, who was speaking at the event IVth Conference on Digital Transformation, under the theme “The Challenges of Digital Acceleration in Angola”, focusing on the theme of new instant transfer system and its impact on financial inclusion in our country, says it is “we only see the number of people that the mouth of the «multicaixas» hand over the card to others to withdraw or transfer” to understand the root of the problem.

On the other hand, Pedro Abreu, Executive Director of EMIS, defended that the existence of a single brand, that is, a single application, with which everyone works and gives “inputs” can be a solution for security, without forgetting also the reliability it will offer and beyond.
