Startup Portugal and Djassi Africa will take 15 African startups to Web Summit 2023

Startup Portugal and the non-governmental organization (NGO) Djassi Africa signed an agreement that will give 15 'startups' linked to Africa the possibility of participating in the WebSummit, under the Road 2 Web Summit program.

“This partnership aims to facilitate the identification of business projects by underrepresented entrepreneurs, including those of African origin, Afro-descendants, citizens of African countries and other groups“, reads a note sent to Lusa, stressing that the partnership aims to promote “inclusion, diversity and social impact”.

The memorandum of understanding has the strategic collaboration of Bantumen, an 'online' publication focused on the culture of Lusophony and “marks an important step towards the achievement of Startup Portugal's social responsibility objectives, namely in terms of promoting inclusion, diversity and social impactl”, reads in the text.

'Startups' are technology companies in their initial stages of activity.

Startup Portugal is an organization that “aims to strengthen and expand its action in identifying and selecting projects for its incentive programs and public policies to support entrepreneurship and innovation“, refers in the note.

And it adds: “With a special focus on Portuguese entrepreneurs of African descent, as well as citizens of African countries residing in Portugal and other underrepresented social groups in the Portuguese 'startups' ecosystem".

The union between Startup Portugal and Djassi Africa "signals a new era of opportunities, collaboration and transformation in the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem, evidencing the conviction that inclusion and diversity are fundamental for a more equitable future", concludes.

The Web Summit takes place in Lisbon from the 13th to the 16th of November this year.
