UEFA will use semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) for the first time, which was scheduled to be debuted at the 2022 Football World Cup, in the European Super Cup between Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, in Helsinki (Finland) , according to the official statement from the institution that governs European football.

"UEFA is constantly looking for new technological solutions to improve the game and support referees' work. This innovative system will allow video referee (VAR) teams to determine offside situations quickly and accurately, improving the flow of the game and the consistency of decisions”, said Roberto Rosetti, responsible for refereeing at UEFA.

The new technology will work thanks to specialized cameras capable of tracking 29 different body points per player, having carried out a total of 188 tests since 2020, including all matches of last season's Champions League, the knockout phase of the Women's Champions League and the UEFA European Women's Championship finals, as well as the remaining club competition finals.

"The system is ready to be used in official matches, and implemented in each Champions League stadium“, confirmed.

The game is scheduled for the 10th of August, starting at 20:00 pm, at the National Stadium in Helsinki, where it will be directed by the Englishman Michael Oliver, assisted by compatriots Stuart Burt and Simon Bennett, with the Portuguese Tiago Martins being one of the assistants in the video. -referee (AVAR).
