European Union available to help Angola in the transition to renewable energies

A European Union informed that it is available to help Angola in the transition to renewable energies, based on the “Pluriannual Indicative Program 2021 to 2027”.

This information came from the European Union Ambassador, Jeannette Seppen, speaking at the International Conference “Renewable Energy in Angola”, which took place last week in the country’s capital, Luanda, and which was carried out following the announcement of several public investment projects in photovoltaic solar energy for the electrification of different national locations, which will make a very relevant contribution to achieving target of 70% by 2025 taking into account the current 42%. 

According to what was informed to journalists, the “Pluriannual Indicative Program 2021 to 2027” is a plan that “provides aid, programs and partnerships for the development of renewable energies together with the Angolan Executive, as well as in the private sector and civil society".

On the other hand, João Baptista Borge, Minister of Energy and Water, who spoke at the opening session, said that “Recently, important electrification projects were approved to be completed over the next three years, within the scope of which around one gigawatt of photovoltaic energy should be installed".

The public official added that “earlier, that is, still during this year, 370 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity should be put into operation. The investment in question is public, but there have also been efforts to establish private investment projects".

Also to inform that the  International Conference “Renewable Energy in Angola” also featured the intervention of the Executive Director of the Lusophone Association of Renewable Energies (ALER), Isabel Cancela de Abreu, where she presented the National Report on the Situation of Renewable Energies in Angola.
