Angola currently has 68 internet operators, numbers that place our country in the lowest places in terms of internet service offers, on the African continent, according to Crisóstomo Mbundu, Manager of the Acelera Net program, from Angola Cables, speaking at the IVth Conference on Digital Transformation, under the theme “The Challenges of Digital Acceleration in Angola”, organized by the magazine Economy & Market.

Speaking on a panel concerning the creation of a strategy for the development of technological infrastructures in our country, the Engineer from the multinational Angola Cables says that the level of internet penetration in our country is 26,5%, showing that few people make coercive use of the internet in national territory.

Crisóstomo Mbundu also said that the digital economy could bring great benefits to our country, such as a reduction in unemployment, an increase in E-commerce, improvement of public services, as well as the delivery of new and more digital services.

In a panel that addressed also the creation of a local software industry, given that Angola still spends large sums on imported technological services, the Angolan specialist also said that Angola currently has three submarine systems, namely the SAT3, which appeared in April 2002, with a capacity of 40Gbs , the WACs that appeared in May 2012, with a capacity of 14Tbs, and the SACS, which appeared in September 2018, with a capacity of 40 TBs and with the latter, Angolans now have internet six times faster than before.

It should also be noted that on that same panel, along with the Angola Cables, Eng Matias Borges (National Director of Telecommunications and Technologies), Dr. José Silva (CEO of IpWorld) and Dr. Antonio Pinto(NCR Marketing Director).
