O Facebook announced that 12 African community leaders have been selected to join the Community Accelerator, a six-month program that aims to equip communities with the training, guidance and funding they need to grow.

As part of the worldwide community leadership initiative on Facebook launched in 2018, the Community Accelerator program invests in leaders who are building communities around the world; including bringing people together, offering encouragement and promoting change.

When granting up to USD 3 million, selected community leaders will receive up to $ 30.000 in funding. In the first three months of the program, these leaders will learn from experts and coaches, while developing personalized curricula, focused on growing their own communities.

The next three months will focus on iterating and executing your plans, with ongoing funding and support from your network, as well as from a dedicated program team. The Community Accelerator will culminate in an event with community leaders to showcase their communities and make progress for funders and external partners.

The community leaders selected as part of the Facebook Community Accelerator are from Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.
