João Lourenço: Fiber optic link inserts Angola into the single African network

The terrestrial fiber optic connection between the provinces of Zaire and Cabinda, crossing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), allowed Angola's insertion in the Single African Network, said, yesterday, in Luanda, President João Lourenço in his speech to nation.

According to the words of the Head of State, the digital transformation in the country has undergone changes, included in the White Paper on Telecommunications 2018-2022, embodied in the National Development Plan (PDN – 2017/2022).

The President of the Republic added that the process effectively made it possible to establish a terrestrial fiber optic link between the provinces of Zaire and Cabinda, crossing the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in the cities of Matadi and Boma, over a length of 800 kilometers.

"This extension joins the more than 22 thousand kilometers already implemented, and Cabinda province is now connected to the National Fiber Optic Network by land, which enabled Angola to be included in the Single African Network”, highlighted João Lourenço.

In his speech to the nation, João Lourenço highlighted that, in the period under review, Angola reached the figure of over 14 million mobile phone subscribers, over seven million internet users and over two million pay TV subscribers.

The international tender to operate Angola Telecom's national fiber optic network was also not forgotten by João Lourenço, who said that this tender is to allow greater and better use of the entire transmission infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the recovery of the connection of the national underwater fiber optic.

In the same conversation, the President of the Republic said that work is underway with a view to operationalizing the fourth Global Unified Title, recently awarded to the winning company, through an international public tender. With the entry of Africell In the national telephony market, João Lourenço understands that this will contribute to a rapid growth in the offer of mobile telephone services, greater competition in the market and an improvement in the quality of services provided to the population and an increase in national coverage.

Following the modernization of telecommunications infrastructure and support for the most varied services, the President of the Republic highlighted that a project is under development that will culminate with the implementation of the digital terrestrial television.

According to João Lourenço, this desideratum will constitute a milestone in the lives of populations due to the quality of the Television, Radio and alerts service that it will provide to its users.

"This process is in an experimental phase, with services already installed, in Luanda, in more than 300 homes, the analogue to digital converters (...)”, summarized the President of the Republic, during his speech to the Nation.
