Mozambique will join Microsoft’s digital acceleration program

Mozambique is negotiating its inclusion in the first edition of a digital acceleration of Microsoft, announced today the management of the North American technology company, after a meeting, in New York, with the Mozambican President.

"It's the first year of the program, it's a launch year. And we are trying to identify which countries will move forward with us. Mozambique, at this moment, is positioned as one of the frontline countries in terms of moving forward with the program“, said André Aragão Azevedo, director of Microsoft's Digital Development Program, speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi.

According to the person responsible for North American technology, today’s meeting aimed to “work together with the Government, together with the country", to promote "this acceleration of digitalization in Mozambique and digital opportunities for the Mozambican population".

"At Microsoft we created a new program called a digital development program. The digital development program actually aims to support countries in accelerating digitalization“, added André Aragão Azevedo.

"It brings a series of benefits, a series of advantages for developing countries, for digitalization systems, therefore, we are currently in the process of identifying the first countries with whom we are going to work, the five countries with which we are going to work.“, said the person responsible, recognizing the “huge desire” from Mozambique to enter this program.

"The President has shown this intention and priority of investing in this topic of digital transformation. And, it was at his request that we actually came to speak and it is proactively the President who is promoting this agenda“He concluded.

The Mozambican head of state is visiting the United States of America, where he spoke on Tuesday at the 78th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The visit foresees the signing, on Thursday, at the Capitol, in Washington, with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), of the second financing compact, worth 500 million dollars, in the presence of Filipe Nyusi.
