Angolan women are encouraged to follow a technological career, according to the speakers at the event “Mobilize and promote the participation of women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics”, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESCTI), last Friday.

The event took place during the celebrations of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, marked on the 11th of February, where the speakers encouraged young Angolan women to study in order to be included in projects that positively impact the lives of citizens.

According to Joana Caetano, Flight Planning Specialist at the Satellite Mission and Control Center of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), says "There is that group of people that impacts the lives of others negatively, but there is another group that impacts positively, we are social beings, whether we like it or not, we end up impacting others. So please positively impact the lives of others."

It should be noted that the event took place at the Instituto Politécnico Industrial Alda Lara, in Ingombotas, Luanda, from 9am to 12pm and where the main audience were the girls included in the scholarships of the Science and Technology Development Programme.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated annually on February 11, is an initiative launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2015, with the aim of strengthening the global commitment with equal rights between men and women, especially from the point of view of education.
