What marked the country in the ICT sector in 2022

The year 2022 comes to an end and during the 12 months, the country recorded many new developments in relation to the “Information and Communication Technology” sector. Several solutions were implemented and, of course, the main highlights go to the entry into operation of the fourth mobile operator - Africell and the launch of the satellite - Angosat-2

Africell, the fourth mobile operator in Angola, launched in April its services in the country, thus taking another significant step towards the transformation of the telecommunications sector.

In October, the Angolan telecommunications satellite, Angosat-2, was launched at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. O Angosat-2 traveled 36.000 kilometers from the Earth's surface to geostationary orbit, where it must position itself.

Unitel presented in December, the first commercial 5G service in Angola called “UNITEL Net Home,” which will provide unlimited high-speed internet for homes and which will allow a 50% discount on the family cell phone service.

Internet users in Angola registered a “significant increase” this year, with the percentage of households with a connection increasing by 3,2 percentage points, compared to 2021, an increase of more than 389 internet users.

In 2022 Angola received the announcement of the arrival of eSIM in Angola by Africell, the fourth mobile operator officially launched the service.

In short, these were the main innovations that the country recorded in the ICT sector during 2022. It is expected that in 2023 the country will once again make great advances in this sector.
